Sending
recruiting for christmas conference script

Here's a sample script that you can edit to fit your situation and your stories. You could simply read the script at your weekly meeting the week before or the week after Thanksgiving) to encourage people to go to the conference. Or you could send it out as an email to the students in your movement.

We always look forward to Christmas break as a time to catch up on sleep, to read fun books and to hang out with friends and family. Face it, by the time Christmas day passes, life on break can become quite boring. You can only sleep so much, books no longer hold your interest, your family is getting on your nerves and your friends are all at a conference. What can you do in order to boost your excitement level a little? Go to the ________ Christmas Conference!

The ________ Christmas Conference is 5 days of allowing God to speak to you through various speakers, seminars and interactions with 1,500 other students. There is incredible worship time throughout the day led by a great worship band. The Bible teacher is probably one of the best speakers I have ever heard and does an amazing job of opening up the Word to us, causing us to want to apply the teaching to our everyday lives.

In the early afternoons there are numerous optional seminars on just about any subject you could be interested in. Evenings are filled again with worship and powerful speakers who talk about how God can work in your life as a college student. Late night conversations, creative fun times and opportunities to meet students from 5 other states are just a few of the great things about the conference.

It has been proven that more growth happens in retreats and conferences lasting 3 or more days than in an entire semester. Can you image how much spiritual growth can happen in your life during the 5 days of the Christmas conference? We are called to be good stewards of what the Lord has given us. He has given you as students an opportunity to sit under quality Biblical teaching and to be exposed to the things that bring Him ultimate glory. Opportunities like this are rare once you finish college. You are in a time of your life when you are most open to allow God to work in your life and when you will have unparalleled options of placing yourself in such an environment.

The usual schedule of the conference is this:

  • morning sessions of worship and Bible teaching
  • early afternoons of optional seminars
  • mid-afternoons to after dinner are free time
  • evenings are times of worship and special speakers
  • one day of the conference is a day of outreach. Often we give out boxes of food and take spiritual interest surveys to look for opportunities to talk to people in the community about Christ.
  • you are on your own to provide your own meals
  • Commuters can come at a reduced conference rate, but it is far more fun to stay at the hotel and hang out into the late hours of the night talking with others about the things God is teaching you.

Registration is in the afternoon on ___________. The conference starts at about 7:00. The conference ends __________.

Students can develop support for the conference registration first and foremost through asking God to provide. Some ways that the Lord provides through is asking people you know and asking your church for the money (Raising Conference Scholarships should be a help in this area). You can ask your families to give you money for Christmas instead of gifts so that you can go to the conference.

(Edit this part to fit your story or situation) If you are careful now about your spending habits (give up a couple of weekends of skiing, go to Blockbuster instead of going to a theater, switch to buying a tall coffee instead of a moccachino, etc) you can “find” a good amount of money. Some of my favorite personal stories are of how through simply praying and asking God to provide so that I could go to the conference and money just "showed up" in the mail. Another time someone walked up to me and gave me an envelope of money that was just the exact amount needed for the retreat. Once I found out about a savings account that I didn't know that I had containing exactly the amount of money I needed for the conference, etc. If He wants you there (and I can't imagine why He wouldn't want you to be in an environment of where He can do more in your life than in a semester), He will do it!"
