Dealing With Barriers You Might Face

Key verse: I Thess. 5:24

"I don't have enough money to go."

  1. Consider asking your parents and relatives for money as a birthday present.
  2. You could raise money for the conference from your church and other interested people. Ask your LINC consultant or local staff member about how you might go about this.
  3. Remember that with God, money is never the issue. God can supply the money even if we can't see how He will do it. (Psalm 50:10)
  4. Consider whether or not you really do want to go.
  5. The cost is very inexpensive for what you're getting.
  6. During the next several months, will you spend a significant amount of money for non-essential items such as junk food, snacks or video games? If so try saving that money instead.
  7. Save a certain amount of money each week for the conference. (For example: $5.00 per week for eight weeks is $40.00.)

"I have to work."

  1. Ask your boss if you can have the week off. (Be sure to explain why.)
  2. Pray that he will allow you to get off. (Proverbs 21:1, Nehemiah 1:11)
  3. Even if it is a new job, you can at least ask to get time off.

"I'm not sure I will be involved in Campus Crusade next semester."

  1. Even if you aren't, this could be a time of growth, spiritual enrichment, fellowship, and increased vision as to God's plan for your life, etc.
  2. It will help you to firm up your decision as to whether or not you should be involved as you learn more about Campus Crusade for Christ.

"I don't know anyone."

  1. You will get to know people once you arrive.
  2. You can bring some of your own friends!

"I have friends coming in to visit me during that time."

  1. Invite your friends to come to the conference with you.
  2. Ask your friends to come either a week earlier or a week later.

"I don't want to go."

  1. Thanks for your honesty.
  2. What are your reasons for not wanting to go?

"My parents won't let me go." (Getting Mom and Dad's Approval)

  1. Do you really want to go? Have you asked your parents yet?
  2. Ask your parents in a kind, respectful, persuasive manner. Show them the conference brochure.

"I have something going on at church."

  1. Talk with your pastor about the decision.
  2. Determine the nature of the function and weigh its benefits with those of the Christmas Conference.
  3. Remember that this conference is designed for college students. It will help you grow in your Christian faith and encourage you to share your faith with other college students.

Feel free to talk to your staff coach about any of these issues.
