ideas for Christmas Outreach
by ellen schumacher

What does Christmas time and Easter time have in common?  No, not chocolate (yummy!).  Both are strategic times of the year to bring up spiritual conversations and share Christ with friends, classmates, co-workers, and professors.

These are the times when people are more open and it is more acceptable to talk about God.  Use that to your advantage!  I know you are thinking about turkey and pumpkin pie, but this is the time when you want to plan what your campus will do for Christmas outreach!  What a great way to celebrate our Savior’s birth by telling another person about the hope they can have through Christ.

Luke 2:10-11 "But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.'"

Here are a few ideas for Christmas outreach:

  • Check out Every Student’s Choice Christmas posters.  You can download a few different posters, make copies, hang them up and pray!  It is that simple!  The posters point students to the evangelistic website, everystudent.com.  Statistics and feedback indicated from those using the everystudent site show that many people accept Christ as a result of visiting this website.
  • Invite classmates and friends to a party and show the Charlie Brown Christmas movie (the gospel is actually referred to in it!). Have one person share his/her testimony afterwards.  Have food, play a few fun games and maybe even make Christmas cookies.
  • Get people together to bake cookies and put them into baggies to give out to non-Christian friends or to a particular dorm.  Tell people you are part of a group on campus called "Campus Crusade for Christ" that is handing out these cookies to show the love of Christ.
  • Reserve a table on campus and hand out free Candy Canes.  Attach the  story behind the making of the candycane to them with a ribbon.  In case people stop to chat, you can also have fliers available with information about the ministry, as well any left over FSK materials.

Whether you choose to do one of these ideas or use a creative one of your own, we encourage you to make the most of this strategic time of year and do a Christmas Outreach.
