All Out War Part 1
(Study on Spiritual Warfare)
This study will expose you to the real
battle we face as believers. If you trust God with all
your heart, you're going to need face this issue straight
on. The battle is truly intense all around us.
Important: With each question you
ask let the discussion flow freely for a few minutes.
Do not be quick to give the answers. The key to these
studeis is to help interaction. People can learn much
from each other during discussion times. Avoid discussing
the Armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. We will look
at that passage more in depth in the next study.
Do: As a discussion starter, begin
your time by mentioning the different movies which highlight
Satan in one form or another (the re-release of the
Exorcist, End of Days with Arnold Schwartzenggar, Adam
Sandler where he is a devil, Lost Souls, other current
movies etc...) Say: "Satan is highlighted in many movies,
but do we know who he really is?" (Do not answer, simply
move on to the next question).
Ask: "Who is Satan?" 1 (Scripture references
below, except where specifically asked, do not need
to be read unless clarification is needed).
- Satan is a spirit being, Eph. 6:11-12.
- He is of the order of angels called
cherubim, Ezek 28:14.
- He was the highest of all angelic creatures,
Ezek 28:12.
- He is a murderer, John 8:44.
- He is a liar, John 8:44.
- He is a confirmed sinner, 1 John 3:8.
- He is an accuser, Rev 12:10.
- He is an adversary, 1 Peter 5:8.
Ask: "When you think of the term "Spiritual
Battle", what comes to mind?"
- Struggles with sin, temptation, trials,
and difficulties thrown in the path of believers by
the evil one.
Ask: "What is Satan really trying to do to unbelievers?"
Satan works in unbelievers to:
- Blind their minds, 2 Cor 4:4.
- He snatches the Word from their hearts,
Luke 8:12.
- He uses men to oppose God work, Rev.
2:13.
Ask: "What is Satan really trying to do to believers?"
- He tempts us to lie, Acts 5:3.
- He accuses and slanders us, Rev. 12:10.
- He hinders our work, 1 Thess. 2:18.
- He employs demons to attempt to defeat
us, Eph. 6:11-12.
- He tempts us to immorality, 1 Cor.
7:5.
- He sows tares among believers, Matt.
13:38-39.
- He incites persecutions against
us, Rev. 2:10.
Ask: "Where have you felt the effects of 'Spiritual
Battle' or influence of Satan's attack on your life
or heart, in the last year?"
Read James 4:7, 1 Peter 5:8-9. (Feel free to
read these passages in context. See text below).
Ask: "What do you think it means to 'resist
the devil'?"
Principle: The devils influence and work to
hinder the believer can be stopped in its tracks! Faith
and complete obedience to the Word will leave Satan
ineffective, Eph. 4:17-32. Do not give him an opportunity.
Say: "Next week we're going to look closely
at a biblical way to resist the devil out of the book
of Ephesians.
1 Most scripture references and ideas found
in the Ryrie Study Bible.
Scripture References:
James 4:7-10
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash
your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you
double-minded.
9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning
and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift
you up.
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone
to devour.
9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you
know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing
the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal
glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while,
will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and
steadfast.
11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
