Our Position in Christ
Theme: What God does
to us at salvation and what God does for us
as His children.
Ask: If you were to take a poll of
today's college students, how would they describe God?
Ask: What factors help shape a students'
view of God?
Ask: When you hit a low point in your
life, what misconceptions about God might you entertain
in your mind?
Say: From this list we can see that
there are many misrepresentations of God. God, our heavenly
father has adopted us into His family. It is important
to be mindful of what God has done for us as His children.
Study these passages and make a list of what God does
to us at salvation and what God does for us as His Children.
Romans 5:1-11
5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ,
2 through whom we have gained access by faith into
this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in
the hope of the glory of God.
3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings,
because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.
5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has
poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
whom he has given us.
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still
powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man,
though for a good man someone might possibly dare
to die.
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since we have now been justified by his blood,
how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through
him!
10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled
to him through the death of his Son, how much more,
having been reconciled, shall we be saved through
his life!
11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have
now received reconciliation.
Romans 8:28-33
28 And we know that in all things God works for the
good of those who love him, who have been called according
to his purpose.
29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to
be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might
be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 And those he predestined, he also called; those
he called, he also justified; those he justified,
he also glorified.
31 What, then, shall we say in response to this?
If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him
up for us all--how will he not also, along with him,
graciously give us all things?
33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God
has chosen? It is God who justifies.
Ephesians 1:3-8
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms
with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the
world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through
Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and
will--
6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has
freely given us in the One he loves.
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches
of God's grace
8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
Ask: What part about what God does
for us and to us, in the above passages, is most easy
to forget, difficult to understand, or you struggle
with the most? Why?
Ask: At this time in your life, what
part about what God does to us and for us is most meaningful
to you and/or you want to apply to your life right now?
Say: After receiving Christ, remember
He will always be there for you, He has done so much
to you and for you. Live life like you
are a child of the King because you are truly part of
His family.
